Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has inaugurated a commission of inquiry to determine the cause of an intra-communal clash in Okworjo-Ngwo, Udi Local Government Area. Speaking at the inauguration, Ugwuanyi appealed to the community to shun acts that could cause further violence.
He said that the constitution of the commission was in line with his administration’s quest for peaceful co-existence among the people. The governor said he would not tolerate further bloodshed, adding that the state government would do everything to ensure law and order. He called on members of the community and the family of the lawyer who died in the crisis to give the commission all the necessary support to achieve its mandate.
Ugwuanyi charged the commission to determine the immediate and remote causes of the disturbances and to make appropriate recommendations to ensure lasting peace in the area. Responding, the Chairman of the commission, retired Justice Frederick Obieze, gave the assurance that the members would carry out the assignment with utmost diligence.
Other members of the commission are Mr Amechi Okolo, Mr Justice Eze, Mrs May Enechukwu and Dr Anayo Ede. (NAN)
