Super Falconets of Nigeria
Two goals by Opeyemi Ajakaye and one by Flourish Sebastine steered Nigeria’s under-20 women past their Burkinabe counterparts on Sunday in Kumasi, Ghana.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the win was in their final Group B match at the ongoing WAFU B Under-20 Women Tournament.
Ajakaye took her tally for the tournament to six with well-taken strikes in the 10th and 60th minutes of the match at the Baba Yara Stadium.
She was the top scorer for the under-girls, the Flamingos, in their qualification campaign for last year’s FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup.
Sebastine, a key player in the Falconets’ squad that reached the 2022 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup quarter-finals in Costa Rica, added the third with three minutes to the end.
NAN reports that the result merely confirms Nigeria’s leadership of the pool.
The Falconets had already qualified for the semi-finals following the 7-0 defeat of Niger Republic and 6-0 hammering of Togo earlier at the tournament.
The victory took the Falconets’ tally to 16 goals in three matches without conceding any.
They will now face the runners-up of Group A in the second semi-finals slated for the Baba Yara Stadium by 6.30 p.m. on Wednesday. (NAN)
