Super Eagles stars Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman have been nominated for the Serie A Team of the Season.

The nominees were announced on Serie A Twitter handle.

Osimhen was instrumental in Napoli winning their first league title since the 1989/1990 season.

He has so far scored 23 goals, made five assists in 29 appearances in the Italian topflight.

He is on the verge of becoming the first-ever African to finish as top scorer in Serie A. He is three goals ahead of Inter Milan’s striker Lautaro Martinez.

Also, he is now Africa’s top scorer ever in Serie A with 47 goals, breaking the record initially held by current Liberia president and former AC Milan striker George Weah.

Despite making his debut in the Italian League this season, Lookman has been one of their standout players.

The former Everton forward is Atalanta’s highest goal scorer with 13 goals, five assists from 28 appearances in the league.

Some other players nominated for the Team of the Season include former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling who plays for Roma, Rafael Leão of AC Milan, Juventus star Angel Di Maria and Paulo Dybala of Roma.

Also nominated are Napoli duo Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Zambo Anguissa, Inter striker Martinez and Juventus French midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The 2022/2023 Serie A Team of the Season will be selected via voting by fans.(The Guardian)
