Agony of Nigerian couple as 4-year-old grandson turns terror whizkid •How daughter dumped Christianity and ran away to marry Islamic State chieftain

A distraught Nigerian grandfather has spoken of his agony after it emerged that his four-year-old grandson was the Jihadi Junior in a chilling ISIS video in which the boy clutches an AK47 and declares: “We will kill kuffar (non-believers).”

British papers this morning quoted Sunday Dare as revealing that he wept as he saw the boy paraded in the video that has sent shock waves across the world.

According to one report, Dare, 59, said: “They are pure evil for doing this to that little child – pure evil. I burst into tears when I saw it was him. He doesn’t like it over there. I spoke to him on the phone and he just said, ‘Grandad, come and get me’. I am devastated they have used my grandson like that – they are using him as a pawn.”

Sunday, according to the reports, said he used to see Isa every day after his birth in King’s College Hospital, London, in 2011. He was also quoted as disclosing that he even took little Isa to watch Arsenal play at the Emirates and that the boy enjoyed a normal western upbringing in the first months of his life. “He would put his head on my chest as I hugged him. That has been stolen from me these last four years,” Dare said of Isa.

The ordeal of Dare and his wife Oyenike began after their daughter Grace, now 24 and raised as a Catholic, secretly converted to Islam, changed her name to Khadijah and fled to Syria in 2012 with little Isa to join Islamic State terrorists.

Dare said Khadijah, who left home in Deptford, South East London, and married a Swedish IS fighter who later died in battle, told him she was going to study in Egypt but later rang him from IS-controlled part of Syria.

“I keep on ignoring her calls because she has brought shame on to our family and to herself,” he said. “My grandson doesn’t like it over there. I don’t trust her.

“I don’t want to be beheaded if I visit her over there.”

Madam Oyenike Dare was said to have refused to comment but one neighbour was quoted as saying: “She is absolutely shocked by everything that has happened with her daughter and completely beside herself with worry.

“No doubt she will be even more concerned if her grandchildren are being put in danger.”
