The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has made the following predictions about Nigeria’s weather condition for today, Monday, January 4, 2016:
NORTHERN STATES: Maiduguri, Nguru, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto and Yelwa will experience reduction in visibility to about 2-3km. Visibility less than 1,000m may be observed in some areas due to thick dust haze. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 10-17oC.
CENTRAL STATES: Dust haze is expected to reduce visibility to 2-3km over Abuja, Minna, Bida, Nassarawa and Makurdi. Night time temperatures should be in the range of 13-20oC.
SOUTHERN STATES: Lagos, Port Harcourt, Benin, Warri, Calabar and Yenagoa will experience dust haze with visibility ranging from 3-5km. similar situation is predicted for Ibadan, Osogbo, Ondo, Akure, Awka, Enugu, Owerri and Onitsha. Night time temperatures are expected to be in the range of 15-22oC.
NOTE: During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry, windy and dusty. Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite easily to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks. Flight operations may be disrupted due to poor visibility in some airports across the country.
