A total of 10 players have been selected to represent Nigeria at the 2023 Bayern Munich Youth Cup competition in Germany.
The lucky players who were picked from different teams, were selected after a two-day Bayern Munich Nigeria Youth Cup competition held at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC Legacy pitch), Enugu.
The players include midfielder Muhammed Danlami, of Team Combine;
Ogbodo Chidozie, striker of Enugu-based Purple Krown FC and Onuorah Divine, Goalkeeper, Purple Krown FC; Muhammed Sadiq , striker, FC Ablaze; Saviour Mathias, midfielder, Abuja Select,
Others are, Ifeanyi Anthony, defender of Enugu Selected and Aman Sabiu defender of Kano based R&K Academy and the trio of Bashir Idris, defender, Muhammed Mustapha, midfielder and Suleiman Abubakar, defender of FC Hearts, .
The finals of the competition played on Sunday between Lagos Select and R&K Football Academy of Kano saw the former taking the crown through a penalty shoot out.
Speaking after the selection process, the Nigerian Director, Bayern Munich Youth Cup, Mr Victor Edeh, advised the players to see their selection as the start of a new journey.
He said, “This Is the start of a new journey. It’s end of one but the start of a new journey. We are looking forward to sorting things out with immigration and the visas too.
“We are organizing a training camp for them, preparing them for the defense of the Bayern Munich Youth Cup world title. That’s the theme, that’s our objective and l am happy for all of them.”
Edeh who appreciated other participants in the tournament described the standard of the competition as very high.
While saying that his foundation, VOE Foundation would continue to keep an eye on all the participants, he expressed hope that through his numerous projects, they would be able to find a place to help them to realize their dreams.
The 2023 edition of the Bayern Munich Youth Cup to be hosted in Germany is expected to kick-off in October, with Nigeria as the defending champion.
