The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has made the following predictions about Nigeria’s weather condition for the New Year, Friday, January 1, 2016:
NORTHERN STATES: Dust haze will prevail in the region with visibility ranging from 1-3km. Cities like Maiduguri, Nguru and Kano may likely experience further reduction in visibility to less than 1,000m. Night time temperatures should range between 10-17oC (degree Celsius).
CENTRAL STATES: Moderate visibility in the range of 2-5km due to dust haze will prevail in places like Bida, Lokoja, Makurdi and Ilorin. Night time temperatures are expected to be between 16-20oC (degree Celsius).
SOUTHERN STATES: Parts of the south will be under the influence of dust haze. Visibility over the area will range from 2-5km. Night time temperatures should be between 16-21oC (degree Celsius).
NOTE: During this period of the year, the atmosphere is usually very dry and windy. Citizens should avoid substances that may ignite easily to reduce incidences of fire outbreaks. Flight operations may be disrupted due to poor visibility in some airports across the country.
