A pressure group, Change Organisation Nigeria, has observed with dissatisfaction, that N18 billion naira is earmarked for the Presidency in the 2016 budget, which is N5 billion naira higher than the 2015 budget made by the previous administration.
The organisation, in a release made available to News Express, lamented: “The 2016 budget, which is the highest in recent years, has a deficit of over N2 trillion naira which is to be financed through borrowing. The debt burden on Nigeria is already very weighty as a significant amount of our annual budgets are used in servicing debts. The benchmark price of N38 dollars per barrel used in drafting the budget is not feasible as oil prices are expected to decline in 2016 according to experts.”
“The details of this includes some N3 billion naira for new BMW cars and other unnecessary expenditures. At this time of serious hardship, this extravagance cannot be accepted,” the group said.
It, therefore, called on the Federal Government to review the budget and make it reflect the actual situation of things as they now stand by cutting on some items, especially those that serve unnecessary extravagance.
