A comedian and actor, Ayo Makun, also known as AY, has attributed the production of low quality movies in the country to lack of financial support from the private sector.
AY made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday.
“We need investors, we need people who believe in your project, believe in what you want to do and come out to support.
“But it’s just that we are in a country where it’s a question of who knows man not the product, not the content.
“So if Mr John knows Mr Johnbull all he needs to do is take money from the company, support Mr Johnbull based on the fact that he knows Mr Johnbull, not based on the fact that he has the content or product that represents his brand.
“What the industry needs is more of people who are willing to come out to support brands that they believe in because that is the only way the entertainment industry can move forward.
“Hollywood is getting it right today; it’s not individual money, it’s not individual funding.
“No individual can just wake up and fund the kind of movies that we see in Hollywood.
“And everybody who keeps seeing how fake some of the movies we do in Nollywood are, they will continue to see it until they wake up as well to have a stand, have a position whereby they can support the industry.”
AY said that the Lekki Gardens had assisted him in the production of his blockbuster movie
‘30 Days in Atlanta,’ recalling that it single-handedly supported his initiative.
NAN reports that the movie made close to N100 million a few months after its release in 2014.
AY is at the moment working on another movie, entitled ‘Akpos in Jamaica.’ (NAN)
