Dickson coasting to victory in Bayelsa Guber Election; INEC suspends collation of results

Incumbent Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is coasting to victory in the Bayelsa State gubernatorial election held on Saturday and Sunday.

Results of seven of the eight local government areas of the state so far collated by the Chief Returning Officer, Prof. Zana Akpagu, show the Contriman Governor comfortably winning in six local government areas, with his main rival, former governor Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winning only one LGA.

Prof. Akpagu has announced the indefinite suspension of the collation of the results of Southern Ijaw LGA, where the ballot took place yesterday. He said the results from the riverine community are still being awaited.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa Police Command has placed a ban on all forms of procession, rallies or demonstrations in the state following the escalation of tension as a result of the elelction.
