Former political appointees of the Imo State House of Assembly, who served the state from June 2011 to June 2015, have again beseeched Governor Rochas Okorocha to sympathise with their plight and order for the release of their May salary.
This is even as the ex-appointees commended the governor for clearing the backlog of salaries owed the House of Assembly civil servants.
Briefing journalists after their weekly prayer meeting in Owerri, the appointees, mainly members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), reaffirmed their commitment and support for the Okorocha administration but urged him to remember them as he seeks to clear the backlog of salaries and pensions of government workers.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Ikechukwu Emeole dismissed insinuations in some circles that the former appointees have been used and dumped to die of hunger by the administration. He maintained that Governor Okorocha never owed them salaries except for the May salary that is in contention.
“We urge the governor to show mercy towards our plight by ordering the release of our one-month salary which is our life line, considering the fact that our entitlements were not paid,” Emeole said while declaring their commitment to colaborating with relevant authorities to negotiate a way out of the problem.
