The former governor of Anambra, Mr Peter Obi, has urged all parties in the ongoing ‘media war’ over the state finances to stop the ‘hostilities.’

Obi in a statement issued by his media aide, Mr Val Obienyem, on Saturday in Awka, urged the parties to remember that the dignity of the state and its people must be protected.

Obi said that he was in the final week of his programme at University of Cambridge and had not been physically available for clarifications.

He expressed displeasure over what he described as “a needless controversy that could be put to rest by a simple recourse to available and verifiable public records.”

He urged his supporters and the supporters of Gov. Willie Obiano to apply restraint in the interest of peace and development of Anambra.

Obi said that it was becoming clear that some people, including aides, were going beyond the issue at stake – N75 billion cash and investment.

According to him, they are documented and verifiable which did not warrant unnecessary write-ups and calling of names.

He described the many write-ups – news, opinions, commentaries, features – as ‘very sad.’

Obi appealed for caution, especially as he offered to clarify any issue or doubts about his tenure, if need be.

He said the governor remained a friend, and that the good people of Anambra should join him in prayers to succeed in the improvement of the fortunes of the children of the state. (NAN)
