News of the death, at 35, of fast-rising comedian Owomoyela Oluwatobi, professionally known as MC Peteru, have been confirmed to be true by the family.

The Owomoyela Family in a statement described the development as devastating.

It confirmed that the Ibadan-based comedian, said to have died of colon cancer, passed away in the early hours of today, Thursday, December 22, 2022.

“The entire family is devastated, and all we can ask for at this time is for the public to kindly allow the family grieve and mourn this huge loss,” the statement reads.

The family described Peteru as “a loving son, father, husband, uncle and comedian extraordinaire”, announcing that his funeral programme would be released later.
