Army Panel yet to receive petitions against personnel on 2015 Elections

No individual or group has shown up to substantiate the allegations against Army officers and men involved the Ekiti, Osun, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and other elections in the country.

This is according to the Nigerian Army panel investigating the alleged misconduct of its officers and men during the 2014/2015 elections which was inaugurated last Monday and is sitting in Kaduna.

While inaugurating the panel on Monday, President of the panel and General Officer Commanding, 1 Mechanized Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade, had urged members of the public who feel aggrieved about the conduct of the officers and men of the Nigerian Army to come forward with concrete evidence and also testify before the panel.

But five days after its inauguration, General Oyebade told reporters in his office, that the panel was yet to receive a single petition or memorandum from the public.

Oyedabe, while explaining how far the panel had gone since its inauguration, lamented that quite a number of officers have turned up and testified but regretted that members of the public were yet to appear before the panel.

The commanders and soldiers from the affected states of Ekiti, Osun, Rivers as well as Akwa-Ibom whave also been summoned to the Headquarters of the 1 Mechanized Division of the Nigerian Army, Kaduna, venue of the proceeding of the panel.

The authorities of the Nigerian Army had on the orders of the Chief of Army Chief, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai, set up the panel to investigate the alleged misconduct of the soldiers during the elections based on public outcries.

The panel had two weeks within which to complete its assignment. (Channels TV)
