Police moves to enhance service with new complaint response unit

Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Abayomi Shogunle, Officer in charge of Compliant Response Unit (CRU), has said that the newly established unit would enhance service delivery to Nigerians.

Abayomi made the statement on Monday in Abuja at an interactive session and introduction of the unit to newsmen.

He said that the unit would also strengthen interaction between the police and the public.

“The essence of establishing the unit is to close the gap between the citizens and the police.”

He said that several cases of misconduct by policemen were not investigated because the victims failed to report to the appropriate authority.

He said that the only way to sustain complaint reporting mechanism was through the unit, adding that the unit would address queries and complaints by the public.

Abayomi said that the unit would deploy multi-platform complaint reporting mechanism through which Nigerians would lay their complaints to the police for action.

“CRU will make available different platforms like phone lines, SMS, social media (twitter, whatsapp and email) for receiving complaints from the public.”

He said that the unit, which would operate 24 hours in a week including public holidays and weekends, has three responding officers per state including the FCT.

The CSP added that responding officers were expected to verify, resolve and submit reports on all cases passed to them within one week to the appropriate department for detailed investigation.

He urged the media to report cases of misconduct by policemen to the officer in charge of the unit for appropriate action.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, will inaugurate the unit on November 13. (NAN)
