The Anambra State Police Command yesterday paraded 16 suspects allegedly involved in various criminal activities, including rape and robbery in various parts of the state.
Parading the suspects at the state headquarters of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) at Awkuzu, in Oyi Local Government Area, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ali Okechukwu, said that one of the suspects, Chinenye Egeonu from Aba, in Abia State allegedly snatched a trailer load of cement belonging to a popular businessman in the country.
He said that following a tip-off on October 3, 2015, men of SARS went to Aba and recovered the trailer truck with Reg. No SML 314 XA arresting the suspect in the process.
Others paraded include Mr. Maxwell Obemana, Ugochukwu Simon and Chukwunonso Nwosu who were according to the PPRO attached to Udide Vigilante Service in Awka and allegedly involved in armed robbery and rape of one Amaka, an undergraduate.
Also, a gang of suspected bandits who snatched a Mack trailer with Reg No. SMK 575 loaded with 187 Daylong motorcycles were paraded. They include Ifeanyi Udeozor from Awgwu in Enugu and Ebuka from Arochukwu, Abia State.
Another group comprising Ebube Okeke from Ihiala, Chijioke Okwueso(Okija), Onyedika Kennedy (Enugu) and Ujunwa Ikwuka(Ihiala) who were also paraded were arrested for robbing one Amah Chinyere of Umunamehi, Ihiala of a Toyota Rav-4 jeep with Reg. No KJA852 BC at gun point.
Okechukwu added that Emmanuel Eze and Irochukwu Ohamara were arrested for allegedly robbing a retired army colonel of N300,000 in one new generation bank at Ogidi in Idemili North local government area of the state, while a student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, who said he belongs to Ma5 cult group, was arrested while forcing a fellow student into the confraternity.
The PPRO hailed the people of the state for providing the police with useful information that helped them to achieve the feat they have achieved in the state.
He however assured of the readiness of the police in the state to make this year’s Christmas and New Year celebration peaceful and crime-free.
