Sokoto promises continuous re-engagement of retired nurses

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State has promised to continue to re-engage retired nurses to complement those in service.

Tambuwal made the promise at the opening of the Quadrennial State Delegates Conference of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), in Sokoto on Saturday.

He also promised to prioritise training and retraining of all categories of medical professionals.

Tambuwal, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Shehu Kakale, promised to continue to accord top priority to the welfare and job security of all health workers in the state.

He called for sustained discipline, hard work and dedication from them and promised to provide a plot of land for the association to build its permanent state secretariat.

He commended the existing cordial relations between the state government and the association.

Tambuwal described Sokoto state as the ‘home of nurses,’ boasting of over 1,000 nurses at various levels of healthcare.

The National President of the association, Mr Alani Adeniji, advocated for unity of members nationwide, adding: “We must avoid all things capable of interfering with our unity.”

The outgoing state Chairman of the association, Mr Aminu Umar, called for the recruitment of more personnel in the health sector.

The theme of the conference is: ‘Nursing Education: Prospect and Challenges in Nigeria.’ (NAN)
