Lecturer turns labourer over non-payment of salary

A lecturer with the Kwara State College of Education, Oro, north-central Nigeria, has been forced to become a labourer in his bid to make ends meet in the face of accumulated salaries.

Mr. Kayode Odeyemi brought his plight to the public via social media, uploading his picture while working as labourer in a building construction site to earn a paltry N1,500 to cater for his family.

Nigerianfilms.com, which published the photos anda short piece, quoted the lecturer as appealing to the Kwara State Government to end his ordeal and that of other suffering lecturers by paying workers their salary.

“Mr. Kayode said the hardship many lecturers are going through as a result of the non-payment of salaries is unbearable,” the report said.

It quoted Odeyemi as saying that he has no option than to do what he is doing so as to be able to feed.
