The Nigeria Police Force has said that it will partner with the UN Habitat for the provision of low cost housing for its officers.

The Force spokesperson, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Olabisi Kolawole, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.

Kolawole said that the project which would be spread across 12 Zonal Commands of the six geo-political zones of the country would be in two phases.

According to her, Abuja, Kano, and Lagos will be considered as special locations for the strategic partnership.

She said that the pilot scheme would begin in the South-West, Abeokuta and Osogbo; South-South, Benin and Port Harcourt; South-East, Enugu and Awka; North-West, Kaduna and Katsina; North-Central, Makurdi and Ilorin.

The Force spokesperson stressed that the housing units would be in two, three and four bedrooms detached flats, duplexes and block of flats.

She said that the project was targeted at the rank and file, adding that officers would also benefit from the partnership.

“Officers of the force will benefit too, but the major target is the rank and files.”

Kowale said that state governors would also support the project by providing Certificate of Occupancy for land allocated for the project.

She said that the initiative was in line with the Inspector-General of Police’s welfare policy for officers of the force.

NAN recalls that the force had also initiated a housing scheme for its officers in some locations in the country. (NAN)
