Kwankwaso
By JOHN NWOKOCHA, Abuja
A national officer of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has said that the constitution of the presidential campaign council of the party and its subsequent public inauguration is on course.
“We are on course, on the issue of presidential campaign council”, the officer said, adding, 2we are taking time to ensure that things are done properly. We don’t want the NNPP to be like other parties that are already torn apart by internal division over who is and who is not in their campaign councils.”
The NNPP chieftain further said, “we have our strategy. We have our own way of doing things that will be in the overall interest of everybody.”
The chieftain who disclosed this while speaking with News Express during a telephone chat, Tuesday night, assured that the party will carry everybody along, stating that there is enough room for everybody in the party. He also said that there is enough time for campaigns. This is coming against the backdrop of concerns over NNPP’s yet-to be announced campaign council, as other parties have flagged of theirs.
The highly placed chieftain of the party bemoaned the crisis in both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying it was a struggle for positions rather than offering Nigerian people manifestoes detailing programmes that will improve their wellbeing.
He however, expressed confidence that the crises in other parties would turn the NNPP into becoming a party Nigerians will trust for good governance. He said that the NNPP remains focused on providing Nigerians with a country where peace, security, economic stability, strike-free academic environment and job opportunities abound, adding that the loses of the other parties would become the gains of the NNPP.
However, News Express gathered that is currently engaged in wide consultations across the country, to ensure inclusivity and trust before presenting themselves to Nigerians. It further gathered that the presidential candidate of the party, Sen Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Tuesday addressed his supporters in a state in the Northeast, as part of the consultations, where he reportedly vowed to restore Nigeria’s glory if elected president.
The chieftain therefore assures that the campaign council would be announced soon.
