The Senate screened two ministerial nominees on Tuesday, namely, Barrister Adebayo Shittu (Oyo State) and Khadija Abba Ibrahim (Yobe).

Barrister Shittu, the first to was screened, explained that he has an abiding faith in the need for Nigeria to be morally right, adding that he has never been indicted for religious intolerance or indicted for any wrong doing.

“I am not an extremist and I am not a fanatic. One thing I believe is, we all must work towards a saner and godlier society,” Shittu said.

When being asked about the policy directions he would proffer for the Change Government, Shittu said he believes that the constitution and manifesto of the APC party captures adequately all the issues of change.

He said: “One of our policies is that children in schools will be given a free meal a day, because poverty has become so endemic in the country that most parents do not have 10 naira to give to their wards to school.”

Shittu disclosed that he would also ensure that grassroots sports is brought up to the optimum and would get youths engaged and educated, so as to curb youths’ excesses and restlessness in the country.

He canvassed that religion be made compulsory in all Nigerian institutions, saying: “If I will have my way, all religious leaders should be paid by the government.”

Shittu declared that if he is made the AGF, he would ensure that all government ministries have a sitting lawyer in them.

Answering questions thrown at him on terrorism in Nigeria, Shittu said: “I want to assure the Senate today that Boko Haram insurgents are not Muslims and their behaviors and activities are unislamic. You cannot claim to be a Muslim and be killing innocent people who have done nothing to you. But I will not say much on terrorism because I have a family to take care of.”

The second nominee, Khadija Abba Ibrahim, is also currently a serving member of the House of Representatives from Yobe State. She was asked to bow and go by Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, her husband.

Consequently, Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, moved the motion for the adjournment of the ministerial screening till tomorrow, and the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio seconded the motion
