The National and State House of Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, yesterday upheld the election of the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Martins Azubuike, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but annulled the election of the Minority Whip, Hon Chijioke Nwachukwu.
The tribunal while delivering its rulings on the two petitions, dismissed the petition brought by Ezechimere Ihuoma of APGA, challenging the return of Azubike as the winner of the House of Assembly poll in Isiala Ngwa North, while it upheld the petition filed by Hon. Jerry Uzorsike of PDP, challenging the outcome of the House of Assembly election in Umuahia South and ordered a re-run in 43 polling units in the area, where it said, elections did not hold.
