The Anambra State Chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has condemned in strong terms what it described as spurious judgments delivered by the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal that sat in Awka.
Speaking at the meeting of the party’s stakeholders in Awka, the APGA State Secretary, Chief Tony Ifeanyi, dismissed as unacceptable a situation where the tribunal in one fell swoop quashed the whole petition filed by its candidates challenging the victory of Peoples Democrat Party (PDP) candidates during the March 28 National Assembly elections except for that of Dozie Nwankwo, who emerged victorious for Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency.
According to Ifeanyi, “The outcome of the tribunal judgement is a miscarriage of justice and it is unacceptable to our party”.
The party also decried what it described as an attempt to thwart the sacred mandate given to it by Ndi Anambra during the elections, wondering why the judiciary which is supposed to be the last hope of the common man would succumb to pressure from the opposition party.
“Our quest for justice is on cause as the party will seek justice at the Appeal Court,” the secretary said.
While commending party faithful for being law abiding and for standing firm in their belief in APGA, the party secretary urged the candidates not to lose hope as the party feels the pains more and would use everything under the law to redress the anomalies.
On his part, Anambra APGA Deputy Chairman, Chief Tony Omeligwe Elee, expressed disappointment over the turn of events at the tribunal, describing it as fraudulent.
Also, the Legal Adviser of the party, Mr. Sly Ezeokenwa, called for the reform of electoral laws, especially as it concerns the time frame for hearing, filling of application and judgment at the tribunal reiterating that the judgment was unacceptable to the party.
