The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, yesterday annulled the election of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 28, 2015 polls.
The tribunal reached the decision in the case filed against Abaribe by Mr. Chris Nkwonma of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). It ordered a re-run in Obingwa and Ugwunagbo local government areas.
Meanwhile, in Anambra State, the tribunal gave a nod of approval to the declaration of Princess Stella Oduah of PDP by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the senatorial election for Anamnbra Senatorial zone.
Princess Oduah’s victory was contested by the senatorial candidate of APGA, Chief Dubem Obaze who took petition to the tribunal citing alleged monumental irregularities.
According to the petitioner, there was falsification of figures in the election as collation of results was done in the cover of darkness with fake INEC officials taking over proceedings.
However, the tribunal Chairman, Justice Hezekiah Solanke, while delivering a judgement that took over three hours, said the petitioner failed to prove the allegations of malpractice during the election saying that the election of Oduah substantially complied with the provisions of the electoral act.
Also in the victory league is the duo of Mrs. Eucharia Azodo, PDP for Aguata Federal Constituency and Mr. Chukwuma Onyema, PDP for Ogbaru Federal Constituency.
