The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has blamed the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government for the sudden demise of former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief D. S. P. Alamieyeseigha.

In a statement by its spokesman, Eric Omare, released on Monday in Yenagoa, IYC observed that Alamieyeseigha was hale and healthy until the British Government requested for his extradition.

The group described the request as a politically motivated conspiracy to extradite the man known as the Governor General of the Ijaw Nation to the UK by the Buhari administration.

Said IYC: “Alamieyeseigha’s death was pure and simple caused by the Federal Government. It is a clear case of constructive murder by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“It would be recalled that the IYC called the attention of the world especially the governments of the United Kingdom and United States to this conspiracy few a few days ago before the demise of Alamco.

“Again, it has become very clear to us that our marriage in the Nigerian state has become most unbearable.

“We have continually paid very huge price in sustaining this marriage yet we have been treated as unequal.

“Ijaw people must brace up to the challenges ahead as the days ahead would be very tough.

“The persecution of our people which has claimed its first victim would take a more drastic dimension. Ijaw people must stand up to protect and defend themselves from this political attack.

“This persecution is a clear declaration of war against the Ijaw nation.

“We must resist state repression and this very attempt at enslaving or treating our people as a conquered nation.”

IYC enjoined all and sundry to comply with the directive of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) “to observe the seven days of mourning in honour of our leader.”

Omare said that at the end of the mourning period, “IYC would address the world on our next line of action.”
