The Bayelsa State Government has declared seven days of mourning in honour of the first civilian governor of the state, Chief Diepreye Solomon Peter Alamieyeseigha, who passed away last Saturday at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital in neighbouring Rivers State at age 63.
A Government House statement to this effect also directed that flags in all public buildings and premises across the state be flown at half mast for the period.
The statement said that the seven days mourning and the flying of flags at half mast take effect from today.
It announced that condolence registers have been opened in the Government House, the State Secretariat Complex and Ijaw House, all in the state capital, Yenagoa.
