4 injured as explosion rocks Oworonshoki in Lagos

An explosion rocked Oworonsoki area of Kosofe Local Government of Lagos on Sunday, causing residents to scamper for safety.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered that the explosion occurred at about 1:00 pm in a locked-up beer parlour along L & K Road, the Inward Mayaki, Oworonsoki.

Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, the South West Zonal Public Relations Officer of the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) confirmed to NAN that four persons, including a baby girl, sustained injuries.

He said that the victims were taken to private hospital facility in the neighbourhood.

“The State Fire Service and the Police are presently trying to find out the cause of the explosion as the shop is still locked at the time of explosion.

“The crowd is impeding the emergency works but the NEMA officials and the policemen had told the people to leave the area immediately.

“The explosion, however, led to the partial collapse of a building next to the beer parlour but no one was injured from the collapse.”

Also speaking, the Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasaq Fadipe, confirmed that the service received a distressed call from the area at about 1.30 p.m.

He told NAN that firemen from the Ilupeju Fire Station were quickly dispatched to the place.

“The distress call came in at about 1:30 pm and I quickly dispatched firemen from the Ilupeju Fire Station to the location.

“Initially the report we had was that a building collapsed, but on arrival at the scene, we discovered that it was an explosion from a locked up shop.

“Investigations by our men revealed that the explosion came from a freezer in one of the shops, due to electrical surge.” (NAN)
