Nigeria @ 55: Okowa urges unity, collective efforts against insecurity, economic challenges

Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed the need for continuous unity as the nation marks its 55th Independence Anniversary.

Okowa in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, expressed the hope that the country would overcome the present security and economic challenges and eventually wax stronger.

Governor Okowa said despite the scourge of indigenous terrorism, political power struggle and other forms of corrupt practices, Nigeria would still be united.

“As a people, we must stand united and steadfast to confront the challenges that face our democracy and our developing economy. Such collective effort, I believe, we must bring to bear on the unpleasant situations that confront our nation, so that the labour of our heroes past shall never be vain,” he said.

Okowa further advised: “We must move forward and march purposefully toward the bright future that is ahead of us; starting with the 55 independence anniversary. All hands must be on deck to continue to work for the sustenance and progress of democracy in the country.”

He called on Deltans and Nigerians at large to use the occasion of the 55th independence anniversary to celebrate the country's togetherness. “Irrespective of our political, religious, tribal and cultural differences, we are still one entity,” Okowa said.

He urged all Deltans to continue to support his administration and the federal government to succeed, adding that, the success of leaders would translate to the wellbeing of the people.
