President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Wednesday congratulated Nigerians on the eve of the 55th anniversary of the nation’s independence.
Senator Saraki in a goodwill message thanked Nigerians for their support and encouragement to President Muhammadu Buhari and successive administrations. He urged them to remain steadfast in their support and be hopeful for a better nation.
The Senate President said: “Nigeria is on the threshold of greatness. The commitment and determination of this government is unshaken. As we mark the country’s 55th Independence anniversary, we must resist despair and come together stronger. We must continue to value our common purpose to the betterment of Nigerians.
“The National Assembly will continue to work assiduously with the Executive arm of government to realise our development objectives. Our priority is to build a virile socio-political and economic environment and therefore bequeath a better country to our future generations.”
Saraki commended the Presidency for the giant strides recorded so far in the fight against Boko Haram and other security challenges confronting the country. He stated that the Senate will not relent in giving absolute support to the military and other security agencies in taming the menace.
The Senate enjoined Nigerians from all walks of life to use the 55th Independence Day celebration to reflect on the nation’s journey so far and commit to work for a brighter future for our great nation. He also urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the unity and peaceful coexistence among the people.
