How Timipre Sylva won Bayelsa APC governorship ticket



Immediate past Bayelsa Governor, Timipre Sylva, yesterday effortlessly won the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election to emerge as the party’s candidate for the December 5 poll. The coast became clear for Sylva after his arch rival Timi Alaibe withdrew from the process earlier on Wednesday.

The former governor scored 981 votes to win the ticket, beating Mr. Godknows Powel, who got 39, to the second position while Mr. Wallman Agoriba scored 28 votes to come third.

Announcing the result at APC Secretariat in Yenagoa, Brig. Mansur Alli (rtd), Chairman, Electoral Committee, Bayelsa APC primary election, said that a total of 1,147 delegates were accredited.

According to Alli, “Out of 1147 accredited delegates for the primary election, Mr Timipre Sylva scored 981 to win other 18 aspirants who participated; On the result, five aspirants scored zero, 1,120 valid votes and 27 voided votes in the election.”

Speaking after the result, Sylva, who also won last week’s primary that was voided on account of alleged irregularities, commended the electoral committee on the smooth conduct of the exercise.

Sylva in his speech, said he was ready to bring the much desired change to the people of Bayelsa.

He urged all the delegates and other aspirants to support his candidature to move the state forward.
