Borno sponsors 50 girl-orphans to Zaria Academy for secondary education

The Borno State Government says it is sponsoring 50 girl orphans to the Zaria Academy in Kaduna State as parts of its girl-child education development programme.

Governor Kashim Shettima stated this while receiving the beneficiaries before their departure to the academy in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

Shettima said that the gesture was aimed at laying solid foundation for the development of the state.

“There is a saying that if you educate a woman you have educated a whole nation.

“That is why government is particularly interested in placing emphasis on the girl-child education.”

Shettima said that the state government had earmarked about N38 million for the programme.

“About 38 million will be paid as schools fees for the students under the programme.”

Shettima added that government would also provide kits and other materials for the students during the programme.

He urged the beneficiaries to be good ambassadors of the state by dedicating themselves to their studies.

“I want to state here that government is willing to sponsor you to further your studies in any higher institution at home and abroad if you perform well in your studies.

“Be rest assured that I will be visiting you in Zaria from time to time to monitor your progress.”

He said that Zaria Academy was selected for the programme because of its high standard in both academy and discipline. (NAN)
