A Mobile Court operated by the Kakau unit of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Kaduna, has convicted 19 motorists for committing various road traffic offences during Eid-el Kabir period.
Mr. Fawzy Garba, a legal officer in the unit told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Kaduna that seven others were freed by the court.
Garba said that 10 were convicted for driver’s licence violation, four for driving without seat belt, three for overloading, one for number plate violation and the other for wind shield violation.
He said that the mobile court was instituted to ensure incident-free Sallah celebration.
Garba said that the FRSC's intensive patrol and the mobile court were meant to address the spate of avoidable road crashes usually associated with the surge of human and vehicular traffic during festive period.
“We will not relent in our efforts to change the driving culture of road users in the country.
“We will continue to arrest all defaulters on our highways, with the main goal of reducing carnage on the roads.
“Driving is a noble profession, and we want only professional drivers on our high ways, to ensure the preservation of the sanctity of human life.” (NAN)
