Anambra State Government has distributed some relief materials worth over N5 million to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Aguleri-Otu in Anambra East Local Government Area in the wake of the border clashes that took place recently between the people of Anambra and Odeke and Echeno communities in Ibaji local government area of Kogi State over an area that contains oil.
The relief materials distributed to the IDPs made up of 100 families include mattresses, blankets, towels, bags of rice and beans, gallons of groundnut oil, buckets and jerry cans.
A Director in the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr. Chuks Onyejekwe who handed over the items to the victims listed places of location of the IDPs to include Enugu Otu, Eziagulu Otu and Nkpu Nando in Aguleri-Otu.
He stressed that the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano was committed to bringing succor to the IDPs, adding that the state government was also collaborating with the Kogi State and Federal governments to find an enduring solution to the boundary dispute between the two states which has in the past led to ugly situations.
Onyejekwe also said that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) would send more materials to the Aguleri Otu IDPs and called on leaders of the affected communities to ensure equitable distribution of the materials brought to them.
On his part, the President General of Enugu Otu community, Prince Benjamin Onyenwife, while commending the state governor for bringing succor to the IDPs urged the National Boundary Commission to expedite action on boundary demarcation in the area in other to ensure a lasting peace between the border communities in Anambra and Kogi states.
He also called on the federal government to prevail on the security operatives posted to the area to remain unbiased in the course of carrying out their duties so as to reduce the incidence of the bloody clashes that was experienced in the area recently that had claimed hundreds of lives.
