Niger Delta youths demand oil refinery in Akwa Ibom

The Niger Delta Youth Movement (NDYM) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to establish a “functional and vibrant oil refinery” in Akwa Ibom State, the leading oil producing state in Nigeria “without much delay.”

National President of the Movement, Comrade Joe Jackson, made the demand at the inauguration of the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Niger Delta Youth Movement in Uyo on Friday.

He also demanded for “immediate relocation of Mobil headquarters from Lagos to Akwa Ibom State, their operational base, without further delay.”

Comrade Jackson expressed his optimism that the newly inaugurated chapter “will not shy away from positively engaging multi-national firms operating in our territory, to adhere to the Local Content Law of our country.”

“With the cooperation of our government, institutions, our patrons and organisations, we will do all it takes, within the confines of the law, to make sure that what belongs to Ceaser is given to Ceaser.”

He noted that Governor Udom Emmanuel had shown demonstrable capacity for youth development as “information indicates” that the state government had sent a total of 1,629 youths abroad, for training on different skills in various sectors of the economy.

In his inaugural speech, the newly sworn-in chairman of the new branch, Comrade Sammy Charles, reiterated the NDYM support to the anti-corruption crusade of President Buhari-led government, urging him however, to be holistic in approach, “since corruption transcends party, religious and regional lines,” as he also expressed his happiness that the President was prepared to wipe out the Boko Haram sect, to put a stop to the “mass butchering and defilement of innocent Nigerians, who were not instrumental to the birth and maturity of this most wicked sect.”

“The trust and confidence President Buhari has on his aids, especially the Heads of the Security Agencies, should be reciprocated, while the list of Boko Haram sponsors must be handed over to him for prompt and sincere prosecution, to serve as deterrent to others.”

High points of the new chapter’s inauguration were, oat taking by the executives officers and presentation of awards to Patrons of the NDYM, including the state council chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Elder Patrick Albert, among others.
