President Muhammadu Buhari says the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) is still a veritable tool of enhancing unity and peace among Nigerians.
Buhari made the remarks on Thursday in his native home Daura, Katsina State, while addressing some NYSC Corps members serving in Daura Local Government Area.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the corps members were at the President's residence to pay Sallah homage on him.
He said that the scheme was an opportunity for them to understand the culture of their host communities by interacting with them.
The President urged the corps members to put more efforts toward discharging their primary responsibilities.
He assured them that the federal government would do everything possible to enhance the scheme and boost the corps members’ morale to ensure effective service delivery.
The President commended the corps members for contributing their quota to the nation building.
NAN reports that Buhari donated N250, 000 and 10 rams to the corps members to celebrate the Eid el-Kabir.
The President had on Thursday joined Muslims faithful in observing Eid-el-kabir prayer at his native home, Daura, Katsina State.
The prayer was led by the chief Imam of Daura, Sheikh Safiyanu Yusuf, at Kofar-Arewa Eid ground around 9.30 a.m. (NAN)
