Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has warned contractors handling road and other projects for the state government against giving gratification to anyone on his behalf to retain their contracts.
Instead the governor wants the contractors to do quality jobs that would stand the test of time.
Speaking at a meeting he held with the contractors at the Government House, Umuahia, Ikpeazu was categorical that he has not mandated anyone to act as his agent, stressing that his concern was to ensure that each contractor leaves his signature on any job assigned to him.
The essence of the meeting, the governor emphasised, was to evaluate what has been done so far and chat the way forward.
Ikpeazu told the contractors that he was aware of effort the contractors were making to meet deadlines and assured them that government would continue to do business with those that are diligent.
While directing a review of outstwnding road contracts, the Governor added that his administration would not award new road contracts until the 31 roads currently under construction were completed.
Some of the contractors, including Obioma Davies and Eze Henry Ezekwem, in their reaction, assured the Governor of their readiness to deliver quality jobs but pleaded for release of more funds to them.
