Inspector-General of Police, IGP Solomon E. Arase, yesterday assured the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development of his total support on the clampdown on perpetrators of violent crimes and other gender-based violence against women and other vulnerable persons.
Force Public Relations Officers Ag. ACP Olabisi Kolawole, said the IGP gave the assurance when he played host to a delegation from the ministry led by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ezekiel Oyemomi, in his office at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The Force Spokesperson said in a statement issued in Abuja that, “The Permanent Secretary used the forum to solicit for the IGP’s support in his ministry’s bid to prevent gender-based violent crimes against women and other vulnerable persons. He also sought for the cooperation of the Police High Command for the sensitisation of the general public against the unwholesome act.”
She added that, “The IGP declared to the delegation that the Nigeria Police under his watch is gender sensitive and as such it would be committed to ensure that the perpetrators of gender-based violence refrain from it or face the wrath of the law. He further used the occasion to enjoin members of the public to utilise the Nigeria Police-Gender based platform to report any case in this regard.”
