Shekarau R and Kwakwanso
A former Governor of Kano State, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau has officially join
the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former DG of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s Support Group AbdulMumin Jibrin, who recently joined the NNPP made the disclosure via a tweet on his official Twitter page.
The tweet reads, “BREAKING- Sen Ibrahim Shekarau joins NNPP. Details later.”
This comes just two days after NNPP National Leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stormed the Kano residence of Shekarau to finalise the agreement of Shekarau’s defection to the new but fast growing NNPP.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje had visited Shekarau Friday night to forestall the defection after which both of them were summoned to Abuja, but Shekarau shunned the meeting after he reportedly gathered that it was not the presidency that called the peace parley.
But on Sunday, Kwankwaso, also a former governor of the state, arrived at the Mudunbawa Kano home of Shekarau, alongside other bigwigs of NNPP to conclude on the defection plan said to be scheduled for official announcement on Monday.
Sources in Shekarau’s camp told Daily Trust that the defection is almost a done deal as all the associates of the former governor in all the 44 local government have agreed to move to the NNPP. (Vanguard/Daily Trust)
