A 60-year-old motorcyclist, Bayo Abidolu, who allegedly impersonated a sergeant in the police force and forged the identity card on Tuesday, appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, who lives at 19, Ijoko Road, Ota, Ogun State, is facing a two-count charge of impersonation and forgery.
The prosecutor, Supol Lugare Ahonle, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in March at Awolowo Way, Ikeja and on Sept. 6, at Kollington Bus Stop, Alagbado, a suburb of Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the accused drives his motorcycle between Alagbado and Ikeja, and because he did not want to be stopped by the police, he forged police identity card.
“He also stole a Nigerian police sergeant uniform and has been putting it on since March till the day he was caught.
“The police patrol team stopped him and demanded for his Identity card, after showing it, they discovered it was fake and took him to their station.”
The offences, according to the prosecutor contravene sections 77 and 79 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Taiwo Akanni granted the accused bail of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case to Sept. 21 for mention. (NAN)
