Police cautioned against unlawful detention of suspects

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 8, Mr. Tanko Lawal, has cautioned officials of the Nigeria Police Force against detaining of suspects for more than 24 hours, stressing that the action is unconstitutional.

The AIG, who spoke while briefing policemen during his tour of the command in Kwara State, urged officials to turn a new leaf in consonance with the present wind of change in Nigeria.

“Be diligent and nice to the populace,” he told the police officials.

Mr. Lawal also stressed the need for police officials to avoided illegal detention and extortion of suspects in order not to give the public a wrong impression about the police force. (Channels TV)
