Some foreign entrepreneurs have indicated interest in building hostels at the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) in Kwara State, North-Central Nigeria – a development which is expected to help solve the students accommodation crisis.
UNILORIN Vice-Chancellor of, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali (OON), disclosed this on Monday during a media chat held in the Council Chambers of the University as part of activities for the school’s 40th Anniversary and 31st Convocation.
Prof. Ambali said: “Accommodation has been a major issue but since I took over two years ago it has been one of my top priorities and we are working on it. By October 2015 some hostels will be completed. We have four to five entrepreneurs who are helping in resolving that issue. Also, some entrepreneurs abroad want to partner in building up hostels as well. In no time accommodation will not be a problem.”
On why UNILORIN allowed 65,000 candidates to write the Post-UTME when not more than 10,000 of them would be eventually offered admission, the Vice-Chancellor said: “We want to get the best out of the good. If you are computer literate you have an edge over others, too.”
