The fight against terrorism was boosted today when the Nigerian Army started distributing a bomb-catching device to churches.
A report this evening by the Abuja station of Wazobia FM said the device was handed over to selected churches in the Nigerian capital city by an army representative who assured them of its effectiveness.
“The army representative assured the churches that the machine is capable of detecting a bomb no matter where it is hidden in a vehicle and of stopping the vehicle from further movement,” the radio station, which broadcasts in Pidgin English, said.
It quoted the army rep as saying that the donation is part of the Nigerian Army’s corporate social responsibility.
Transport & Business Express could not immediately confirm names of the beneficiary churches and whether the gesture would be extended to other parts of the country.
Nigerian churches located in the northern parts of the country have been at the receiving end of suicide bombing by Boko Haram members although the trend has ebbed out since the appointment of a new National Security Adviser by President Goodluck Jonathan on June 23.
