Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has said that all candidates seeking admission into the university would be given an equal opportunity, noting that the institution’s admission process is based on merit.

Prof. Ambali stated this when he received members of the Central Executive Council of the University Students’ Union in his office.

Explaining that the number of candidates seeking admission into the university is on the high side, the Vice-Chancellor noted that this is creating a huge pressure on the system.

Prof. Ambali, however, assured all admission seekers that the process would guarantee that every candidate is given equal opportunity.

The vice-chancellor pointed out that the University is raising top class graduates that are tuned to the frequency Nigeria needs.

He congratulated the Students’ Union leaders on their recent election, saying that their submissions have been noted and their proposals would be looked into.

Prof. Ambali used the occasion to invite the Students’ Union to be part of the forth-coming 40th anniversary celebration of the University and its 31st Convocation programme coming up in October.

Charging the students to continue to be well-behaved and interact more with the Dean of Student Affairs, the Vice-Chancellor said: “Together we can build the University of our dream; See your present position as a training ground for the future but don’t allow it to override your

academic career.”

Earlier in his address, the President of the Students’ Union, Comrade Alao Idris Ibrahim, pledged the students’ union’s commitment to redouble its support for the management of the University in the new academic session.

Commending the university management’s efforts on students’ welfare, the student leader praised the administration for the stable electricity and water supplies on the campus. He stressed that the students’ body would do everything possible to support the upcoming 40^thanniversary and 31st Convocation activities of the university.

Alao thanked the Vice-Chancellor for supporting Unilorin students that participated in the NUGA Games, disclosing that the students’ leadership programme coming up later in the new academic session would be dedicated to honouring the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Lamido Sanusi.

Other Students’ Union Executive Council members who accompanied their president on the visit to the vice-chancellor included: Miss Imman Lawal and Miss Afuye Olubunmi Olusola, Vice-Presidents for Permanent Site (PS) and the College of Health Sciences (COHS) respectively; Mr. Akano Ifeoluwa Thomas, General Secretary; Miss Sulaimon Saidat Tunrayo, Assistant General Secretary; and Miss Oyekan Oluwadamilola Olasubomi, Financial Secretary.

Others were Mr. Abdulrasheed Mahmud Olatunji, Welfare Secretary (PS); Mr. Ganiyu Kehinde Oyindamola, Welfare Secretary (COHS); Mr. Aondongusha Tersoo Isaac, Social Secretary; Mr. Joel Karimu Ikazuwagbe, Sports Secretary; and Adeyemi Ademola Oluwaseye, Public Relations Officer.
