A 25-year-old man, who allegedly assaulted two policemen, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates' Court.
The accused, Chidi Edeh, who resides in Sabo area of Yaba, is facing a three-count charge of demanding property with menace, willful damage to property and assault.
Prosecutor Simeon Imhonwa told the court that Edeh viciously assaulted two policemen in an attempt to escape arrest.
He said the accused committed the offences on Aug. 9 at Moore St., Yaba, when he attacked Mr. Monday Nwata, and demanded to be paid N2 million under duress.
He said the accused became violent and broke the windscreen of Nwata's car.
“Edeh attacked the policemen -- Cpl. Festus Emmanuel and Sgt. Matthew Akihilomen -- who attempted to arrest him.
“He broke Akhilomen's right leg with an iron rod and bit Emmanuel and caused him bodily harm.”
Although he entered a not-guilty plea, the prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 172, 299 and 348 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs. Oluwadamilola Olanipekun, admitted Edeh to a bail of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to Sept. 30 for trial.(NAN)
