The Chairman of Doma Local Government of Nasarawa State, Mr. Henry Omaku has appealed to the state and federal governments to assist in rehabilitating a collapsed in the area.
Omaku made the appeal in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Doma, saying that the bridge, which links Doma town with the market, collapsed recently following a flood.
He said if the bridge was repaired, it would ease the transportation problem of the people and revive commercial activities in the area.
“Something has to be done on time considering the location and importance of this bridge.
“Since this is a federal road, we need to interact with the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to intervene.
“We are also forwarding the report of this situation to the state government.
“It is our responsibility to inform the state government of what is happening at our own domain and we are going to copy our complaint to the Federal Controller of works in Nasarawa State.”
According to the chairman, if the bridge is allowed to collapse completely, it will adversely affect socio- economic activities of the area.
“It is also capable of causing serious harm to the people of the community and even beyond.”
Meanwhile, a resident, Abdullahi Nuhu, has expressed concern over the collapsed bridge and appealed for government’s assistance.
“A lot of people benefit from this road.
“That is why we are crying that the government should do something about this issue.” (NAN)
