The new country Director of OXFAM, an international NGO operating in Nigeria, Mr. Jan Rogge, has promised to sustain support for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in the North East.
Rogge gave the assurance while addressing IDPs in Malkohi settlement near Yola on Wednesday.
Rogge said OXFAM would continue to support the IDPs particularly in the areas of water, sanitation and food supplements.
Rogge, who was in Adamawa State to assess OXFAM’s intervention in camps, lauded government and other NGOs for their support to IDPs camps and called for more, particularly in education, for their children.
Leader of the IDPs, Malam Idrissa Abdullahi, lauded OXFAM for its support which he described as outstanding, to the camp.
Abdullahi also lauded OXFAM for supporting IDPs that engaged in farming with seedlings supplied to the settlement, adding that it made them to feel at home.
Abdullahi called for school for their children and the recruitment of their youths as vigilantes, military and paramilitary personnel to enable them to participate in the fight against insurgency.
“Our youths are familiar with the terrain, and if recruited as vigilantes and soldiers, they will make tremendous impact in sacking Boko Haram so that we can return home.”
The director also visited the State Emergency Management Agency and St Theresa Catholic Church Camp where he addressed some IDPs and inspected a vegetable garden established by the IDPs. (NAN)
