Immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Obot Akpabio, has been flown abroad for further medical attention following Monday’s car crash in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, which left him with injuries.
Akpabio, who is the Senate Minority Leader, was immediately rushed to the National Hospital, Abuja, for urgent medical attention after the car conveying him to Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport hit an American Embassy car around Bolingo Junction, close to the Ship House.
A report this morning in The PUNCH said he travelled out of the country around 20 minutes to 1pm yesterday in the company of about five of aides. He “left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja aboard a regular private jet that he usually travels with,” the report said.
A source told News Express that at the National Hospital on Monday, Akpabio “was brought in a wheelchair covered with blanket, may be due to security reasons.” The source said that the former governor was then taken to the X-Ray Department. “When they wanted to take him to the machine, the blanket was removed and he was covered with a white clothe,” the source added.
Akpabio was discharged later in the day and returned home.
