Anambra Police Command set to launch Operation Peace

The Anambra State Police Command is set to launch Operation Peace ahead of the yuletide to clampdown on all forms of criminality in and around the state.

The Commissioner of Police Mr. Hassan Karma revealed this in a media briefing at the command headquarters in Awka.

This has come on the heels of several arrests made within August in which two policemen were apprehended for armed robbery.

A 29 year-old, Peter Iloh from Egede, Enugu State, was a Corporal serving at Oguta in Imo State Command and was arrested for armed robbery by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Awkuzu, Anambra State.

The second suspect, Constable Nicholas Ogbuanu, was a dismissed officer, who still went on to parade himself as an officer and was extorting money from a commercial motorcycle rider when he was apprehended by the police in Onitsha.

The State Police Commissioner reacting to the resolve of the command to clamp down on criminals in and around the state revealed plans to launch Operation Peace, which would target stamping out crime and criminality.

Mr. Karma used the opportunity to enlighten members of the public on the ongoing Police recruitment across the country and cautioned them to be wary of fraudsters, who will want them to part with money or gift in order to secure recruitment.

The police helmsman also revealed that over one hundred assorted arms and over ten thousand various types of ammunition have been recovered by the police from January this year to September, while over three hundred criminals have been arrested. (Channels TV)
