Apostle Godspower Udjor of Champion Faith International Ministries on Sunday advised religious leaders in the country to engage in constructive criticism of government and avoid being partisan.

Udjor gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja during the 5th anniversary celebration of the church.

He said religious leaders should use the power of religion to speak the truth and promote justice in the society.

“Let us not lose hope, it is too early to begin to fight the government or castigate it, let us believe in President Muhammadu Buhari and those he has appointed and will still appoint. Nigerians need to continue to pray for the success of the country and for the selection of the people that will bring the desired change,” Udjor said.

Udjor said religious leaders should continue to pray for those in position of authorities, adding that prayers can change negative developments.

“Leaders carry a degree of responsibility to their followers. They are often the targets of criticism. If they lead well, they are living their lives in service. We pray for them because we recognise the greatness of the task they face and we are grateful for their willingness to lead,” he said.

On corruption, the cleric commended the President in the fight against corruption, saying that it had hindered the progress of the nation.

He called on Christians to maintain good moral standards in their field of endeavour and promote peace. (NAN)
