The American University of Nigeria (AUN), a leader in e-learning deployment, is co-hosting the 2015 conference on “Technology Assisted Learning in the Nigerian University System” with the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Digital Promise Global.

The Conference, scheduled for Barcelona Hotels on Blantyre Street, Abuja, is being sponsored by Airtel, MTN, Computer Warehouse Group, Microsoft, Sunnet Systems & Datacom Services Ltd, IBM, and EDU Platforms – all big players in the ICT industry.

Described as a foundational event, the conference is scheduled for August 31 and September 1. News Express learnt that it will bring together major stakeholders in the nation’s university system and underscores the importance of collaboration and teamwork.

“Our hope is that this forum allows us to discuss new ideas and opportunities, with transformative potential for more effective teaching, learning, and research,” said Professor Julius A. Okojie, the NUC Executive Secretary, in his welcome note to participants.

A prime objective of the conference organisers is a better and more effective teaching, learning, and research through ICT.

“Our universities need to gradually ease away from traditional methods currently employed to those that are more relevant to the realities of life in an interconnected and globalising world,” says the conference website.

Participants will be exposed to the current state-of-the-art of IT and education, strategies for successful ICT deployment, and the challenges and barriers to ICT deployment.

Vice Chancellors or Presidents, Directors of Academic Planning and ICT, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), internet service providers (ISPs), research institutes, independent researchers, and others seeking to help chart the course for university education in Nigeria are expected to attend the conference.
